Forum Updates

As you know, we've had some updates and changes on the website recently.  Hopefully the majority of the problems have now been solved .. feel free to let me know if there's still something that seems wrong - I have a list of stuff that is waiting to be done, most of which is fairly minor.

You may have noticed the forums look slightly different now.  I've taken comments on board and am in the process of trying to improve their layout - hopefully they will be easier to view and navigate now, and in theory easier to work out where to post stuff.

As with everything, it does take time - the majority is done, but I'm still in the process of going through forums and moving things around so that they're in the right place.  A couple of the smaller sections have been merged together, some have been split.  I've increased the description of the main forum sections.

If anyone has any suggestions (or notices any typo's!!) please let me know.

The majority of posts SHOULD be in the correct place now, barring "The Tavern" which turns out was several pages longer than I realised when I started, and was basically the dumping ground for "can't work out where it should go" - for me as much as anyone else.  So I'm having to read through a lot of stuff before I can decide where it should go.

I'm aiming to make some additional posts, when I have time, to help people work out how to use the forums properly .. such as how to post videos, photos, links, how to use signatures and how to tell when there are unread posts, etc.  But that may not be until next week sometime now.

This is a small one that may only affect people like me who use cookie destroyers and password managers, but I've noticed that a lot of the links on the site now link to the long-form version of the site's URL (darkwolves.guildlaunch.com) rather than darkwolves.eu.

This means that I get "Logged out" clicking on some links. It's no bother, really, as I can just log back in again, but if that isn't desirable behaviour then it may warrant a fix? But if it only affects me, and it's not bothering anyone else, then don't stress about changing it.

Ahhhh ... I knew there's be some problem with that .. just wasn't sure what!

I've currently (hopefully) got Support working on the url problem.  I'd found that although we have the www.darkwolves.eu url, which is linked to the site (on both ends), the website itself doesn't always use it .. regardless of what I do, some default to the guildlaunch one (because effectively it's the same thing, our url just kinda "hides" the other one). 

One of the things I'd noticed for a while now is that some pages accessed using the darkwolves.eu url change their formatting slightly (http://darkwolves.guildlaunch.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11001676&gid=180473) - resulting in the page looking cramped and squished (which certainly doesn't look great, but also makes things rather complicated when I'm busy trying to improve the look of the site!).  The only way to reset it back to normal was to go to a page on the site with the long guildlaunch url.  It's taken me ages to work this out, but finally sussed the cause of it (although not why) yesterday - which is why I changed some of the urls to the long version - so we're less likely to get the hinky pages. 

I've asked Support to have a look and try to work out what the cause is - once I know for definite, I'll try to review them - I'd like to have at least the main pages using the proper url.  Having said that .. some of the links I cannot change because they're "standard".  It may be something Support needs to sort out .. one way or another.

I've also noticed that the "latest post" widget doesn't seem to be behaving itself.  It is supposed to send you to the last post that you've not read on that particular thread, but it's failing at that, at the moment.  I'm keeping an eye on it and, when I have time, will experiment with it and try to get it fixed (or report to get it fixed).
