re: Changes to Valor Points
on 19-03-2011 11:03
Blizzard have announced a change in the way you collect Valor points, in the next patch.
Basically at the moment you receive Valor points for the first random heroic you run each day (all current heroic instances are classed as "Tier 1"). You only get Valor points for the first random heroic you run each day - any others don't count. You also get Valor points for each raid boss you down.
As from patch 4.1, you will earn Valor points for the first seven random heroics per week - meaning that every single time you ran a random heroic, you would gain Valor Points for completing it, up to a maximum of seven in any given week.
Patch 4.1 will also see the launch of several new heroic instances which will be harder than current heroics, and classed as "Tier 2". Tier 2 heroics will reward a higher number of Valor points on completion.
Tier 1 Heroics = 70 VP
Tier 2 Heroics = 140 VP
The Valor Point Cap, per week, will be 1250 VP.
The maximum number of VP earned through randoms of either type will be 980 VP, if you want to reach the VP cap of 1250, you will need to kill raid bosses.
The maximum VP you can earn each week through Tier 1 heroics is 490 VP (7 runs x 70 VP). If you do this, then to reach the cap you would have to successfully raid.
Alternatively you could run 7 Tier 2 heroics and reach the randoms VP cap of 980 (7 x 140 VP). After that you would need to successfully raid to gain any more, up to the VP cap.
You can, of course, do a mix of Tier 1 and Tier 2 randoms, but that would bring your maximum VP's earned through heroics down, as you may only earn Valor points from the first 7 of any tier. If that bothers you at all
