Website Subscription

As you may have read in the recent newsletter, we are currently enjoying a subscription to the full website service with Guildlaunch. This is due to end around August/September time.

There are several features I'm reluctant to play around with, because I don't want the time wasted when the features are removed once we go back to the free site (but if I'm bored I may have a play anyway!).

However, I've added the website's own "gallery" feature, complete with in-built widget, just so that people can have a play and compare that with our photobucket version. We can use the Gallery on the free website, but as there is only very limited space (about 10Mb I believe), it isn't worth it. With the normal subscription you get 500Mb, upgradeable to 3Gb.

Other bonuses to having a subscription include making the site advert-free; complete freedom with CSS Editing; domain name pointing (ie, the website address of www.darkwolves.eu would show at the top); newsletters; automated roster imports, etc.

If anyone wishes to help keep the website subscription based, please use the "Donate" widget to the side. A record is kept of all donations, which will ONLY be used to fund this site. A monthly subscription is 6USD, which is less than £4.

As you know, we also have a Ventrilo server, which can also be provided by Guildlaunch and included in our subscription, however, I am happy to continue paying that as currently we have very few problems with it, it is no more expensive that using the one via Guildlaunch, and it is UK based.

For information, I have had the following reply from Guildlaunch regarding their various subscription plans:

If you setup a subscription then it is:

$6.00 +$1.00 for rapid raid for 500 megs storage.
$11.00 +$1.00 for rapid raid for 1 gigabytes of storage.
$20.00 (Rapid Raid Included) for 3 gigabytes of storage.

Very few sites us the larger plans, but they are available.

I see little need to use anything other than the $6 version - the additional $1 for rapid raid is not needed as this is for those guilds who run multiple DKP lists.

We have already received some donations - some very generous - so thanks guys.

Its official, I'm a complete Paypal noob ... I've also discovered that Paypal takes a "cut" of any payments made - makes sense I suppose, I guess they have to make money somewhere. On a $6 (one month subscription fee for guildlaunch), they actually take $0.50 out of that for their fee. Not a great deal, but it makes it more difficult for people to donate full "months" of subscriptions.

Unfortunately the only other alternative for Guildlaunch payments is to use their own "Crowdpay" system, but that bumps up the subscription costs to $10 per month. Obviously, even with the paypal fee, it is still cheaper to use them.
