re: Competition!
on 09-05-2012 5:40
Guildlaunch have started a competition where the site can win subscription time, and those voting can win prizes too.
You may have noticed the new "Eve Online" widget to the right - you can vote once each day, and each vote will place you in the draw for a prize. If the site gets enough votes, we may win subscription time.
Despite it advertising Eve Online, any website can be entered and anyone can vote ... so please remember to vote each day!

For ease, the FAQ's are below ... remember, you can only vote once per day - any more than that and ALL of your votes will be disqualified:
Contest FAQ
Q. Do you have to host with Guild Launch to participate?
A. Nope! You can add your site by providing some basic info. You will need to create an account with a valid email so that we know who to contact if you win, but that is all that is required.
Q. Do you have an embed script so I can put the contest info on my site?
A. We sure do. Go to the voting page for your site, then below the voting button are embed and sharing options. Note: If you host with Guild Launch there is an Eve Top Corporation contest widget that makes this even easier!
Q. Will votes be reset?
A. Yes. At the end of each month the voting will reset. This will allow new winners to win the monthly vote based prizes. The total votes over all months will influence selection for the trip to Eve Fanfest. All other random prizes will be from all participants in all months.
Q. How do you combat cheating?
A. Every vote is individually tracked against an account. Votes from unverified accounts will be removed. Votes from the same IP more than once per day will be disallowed. Users caught cheating will have all of their votes removed.
Q. One of my members tried to cheat. Will our site, or myself, be disqualified?
A. No, but we may watch your votes more closely.
Q. Does my account have to be verified to vote?
A. Yes! Before we award any prizes or finalize any winners we will remove all votes cast by unverified accounts. So, use a valid email and make sure you verify that email!

It's a monthly thing .. it was supposed to finish this month, but they've extended it for another month, so we get another bite at the cherry, so to speak. I don't think we have much of a chance at the "top number of votes" part of it as several of the other sites were getting over 400 votes by the end, but we still have a chance from the random draws.

Ah .. now I've just looked at their forum posting about this, and they may have done it wrong, so I may not have won *sigh* ... so much for getting all excited then.

re: Competition!

Right .. the latest is that the guy sorting out the prizes misread the competition rules and thought the graphics cards were going to the sites (ie, site owners), not individuals.
However, as he realised he made a mistake, his original prize-givings stand (yey!) but there may be additional prizes to other individuals.
This MAY mean that someone else in Dark Wolves has won something too - if he pulled a random vote out, and then assigned that prize to the guild site owner, it could have been any guild member who voted for us who won it (admittedly, it may still have been me!) - in which case it is possible that the person he pulled out, also may get a prize.
Alternatively, as he misread the rules, he may simply have pulled random guild sites out of the hat - at which point he may simply do another random draw for individuals.
Watch this space, and I'll keep you updated

Not a dickie-bird, unfortunately. They were supposed to sort it out last Monday, but apparently they had a massive storm which knocked out a lot of their hardware/electrics - but I would still have expected them to have sorted something by now.
I'll put a message on their forum asking for an update:

I've had this reply:
Quote:We are finalizing the numbers for the second round of the EVE contest and will have winners announced and contacted tomorrow.
If anyone won in the first round but has not been contacted, please send me a PM and I will get you taken care of.
Hopefully we'll know tomorrow if any guildees have won anything.
Remember to vote in the new competition for even more chances to win!
