I'll be more than happy to send out scrolls of resurrection if needed.

This is true but you can also muck up the digital upgrade, although I don't know how.

As long as you use the link in the email you receive then all is well and good as you will have the "Add Product Key" option in Account Management. Some people seem to somehow not use the link and the Accounts are then not linked (I'm getting tired of saying link!).

But if it does happen, you're right, Accounts and Payments will sort it providing they can see that the RaF request was sent.

It may also be worth noting, while we're on the subject of RaF, the recruited account will be severely gimped for a period of 8 to 48 hours if it is upgraded through Battle.net. Trial accounts have restrictions such as not being able to use in-game mail, some chat functions, join guilds, use the Auction House, trade between characters and one or two others. A store-bought product key, when activated, will immediately lift all restrictions but Blizzard's security systems will only lift some restrictions on accounts upgraded to full versions online. This could be important as you can easily hit level 20 before you have enough money for the mount and you will not be able to transfer the money to the recruited account for a while.

ah right .. it is worth noting then, if you're protective about your identity. How does it work as far as account linking is concerned? Is that similar to realid, where they can see when you're online at any time, and on what game/character?

Personally, I'm more protective of that, because although I spend the huge majority of my time in guild, occasionally I'd just like to play solo - or with my son, without risk of disturbance.

Well you'll be happy to know it does not work like RealID in game.

You still have to add each other to your friend's list so if you use RealID (or Battletag when it is eventually enabled in WoW) then your "friend" will be able to see you at all times, otherwise it is just a character by character basis so you can keep characters that the other person doesn't know about.

When you do have your recruit on your friend's list (and vice versa) an icon is added to their character's name in your list which can be clicked to use the "Summon Friend" ability allowing you to summon your friend to you (and vice versa) so that you can play together and benefit from the 300% XP bonus. Just as an FYI, due to the reworking of all the starting areas, if you and your friend are not the same race there are limitations on being able to do starter area quests together due to all of these now having a faction-specific edge to them. Non-Forsaken players, for example, cannot receive any quests in the Forsaken starting area.

Now, I cannot recall but I am almost certain if the game detects you and your linked-account friend in the same zone on new characters it will automatically add you to their friend's list and vice versa. This is most likely to assist in lifting the block that trial accounts have in which they cannot /whisper people who do not have them on friend's lists. To my knowledge, it does not automatically add veteran characters (those created before the RaF link was established).

It gives them the name that the account is registered in which is the same as your RealID. For instance, if your name was Jane Doe the email you receive would read...

Quote:
Hello,

Jane has sent you an invitation to play the FREE Starter Edition of World of Warcraft® using the Recruit-a-Friend program.

Click here to activate your Free Starter Edition! - This invitation will expire in 30 days.

You must use the link above or the URL below in order for your accounts to be linked and receive Recruit-a-Friend benefits.
• If you prefer to type the URL into your browser for security purposes, it is:

It also gives the name in the Subject of the email and I seem to recall it giving your full name in the Account Management section where the account-link is shown.

Obviously, for some people this won't be a huge concern but I think it is worth noting for people who are protective of their real-life identity online. The Scroll of Resurrection, at least if sent from a character, does not give out your real name but just your character's name.

I don't mind sending SoR requests to people.

Unfortunately, the RaF service gives out the name used on your WoW account to people and I'm not comfortable doing that so I won't be able to send out RaF invitations.

PostPosted: 31-05-2012 7:41    Post subject: New to WoW/Returning after a Break?

If you want to start playing World of Warcraft (or want to set up a new account), or you want to return after having let your account lapse for some time, you can ask a current player to send an invite which will benefit both of you.

You can get full details on the Blizzard Support site here:

Scroll of Resurrection (returning players)

Recruit a Friend (for new players)

If any current members of Dark Wolves wants to participate in sending either a Refer-a-Friend or Scroll of Resurrection invitation, please reply to this post. Please bear in mind that, as I'm asking potential invitees to contact you direct (as they will need to send you their email address), you will need to ensure you have regular access to your Private Messages.

If any new or returning WoW players wish an invite to be sent to them, please feel free to contact those offering the invites, direct, via Private Message.

You can send a Private Message by clicking on the "PM" button by the side of the relevant persons messages, or in their profile page: Forum Image
